The iPhone app published on the App Store as PetTalk - Pet Translator and presented on this site as Cat Translator ("the App", "we") is built and maintained by an independent developer. This Privacy Policy describes what data the App collects, why, and how it's handled. It also covers this website, mycattranslator.com — see This website: cookies and analytics.
What the App does not do
The App does not require an account, does not have a login, and does not collect your name, email address, or contact information. It is a playful entertainment app — it does not build a profile of you or sell your data.
How recordings work
To produce a translation, the App needs to hear your cat, so it records a short audio clip using your iPhone's microphone when you tap record. That clip is used to generate the playful translation and, if you choose to keep it, is saved to the cat profile on your device. Recordings are captured for the purpose of translation, not to identify you.
Data not linked to your identity
Apple's App Privacy label on the App Store listing is the authoritative summary of what the App collects, and this policy is kept consistent with it. Any data the App collects falls into the following categories and is not linked to your identity:
- Purchases — if you subscribe or request a refund, Apple shares limited purchase activity with us (such as anonymous account identifiers and purchase amounts) so we can manage subscriptions through the App Store.
- Usage data — aggregate, anonymised information about how the App is used, via Apple's built-in App Store analytics.
- Diagnostics — crash logs and performance data, used only to fix bugs and improve stability.
Microphone permission
iOS asks for your permission before the App can use the microphone, because that is what it needs to hear and translate your cat. You can review or change this at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone. If you do not grant it, the App cannot record a sound to translate.
Entertainment only
Cat Translator is an independent app made for fun and curiosity. Its “translations” are playful interpretations, not veterinary, medical, or behavioural advice. Apple, iPhone, iPad, and iOS are trademarks of Apple Inc.
This website: cookies and analytics
The website has no account, login or forms. To see which pages people find useful, it measures visits with Google Analytics 4 and Ahrefs Web Analytics. Reading the site does not require any cookie. The only cookies it can set are Google Analytics cookies:

- EEA, UK and Switzerland — these cookies stay off until you press “Accept” in the cookie banner. Until then, Google Analytics runs in Consent Mode and receives page views without cookies or any identifier stored on your device.
- Other regions — Google Analytics sets these cookies by default. You can turn them off at any time with the cookie settings button below or in the footer.
- Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control — if your browser sends either signal, the website loads no analytics at all (neither Google Analytics, nor Ahrefs Web Analytics, nor our own visit counter) and shows no banner.
- Your choice — remembered in your browser's local storage (key
mct_consent_v1), not in a cookie. Declining also deletes Google Analytics cookies that were already set.
Our own visit counter (first party) — when a page opens and when you tap an App Store or Google Play button, your browser sends a single word (“visit”, “page view”, “App Store” or “Google Play”) to our own server, which adds one to a daily total. Nothing else is recorded: no IP address, no User-Agent, no page address, no identifier. It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser, so it runs without a consent banner — but not when your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control.
Ahrefs Web Analytics does not use cookies. The website sets no advertising cookies, and it always tells Google Analytics that advertising storage, ad user data and ad personalization are denied. If JavaScript is disabled, no analytics are recorded.
Legal basis
For visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google Analytics cookies are used only with your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a) and the ePrivacy rules on storing information on your device). You can withdraw it at any time, which does not affect measurement made before. Cookieless measurement and server logs kept for security and to run the site rely on our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)).
Service providers
- Vercel — hosting. Its servers record request data (IP address, browser user agent, time) for security and performance.
- Google — Google Analytics 4 (web analytics).
- Ahrefs — Ahrefs Web Analytics (cookieless web analytics).
These providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. We do not sell website data or use it to build advertising profiles.
How long website data is kept
- Google Analytics event data: no longer than 14 months, then deleted. Aggregated reports that identify no one may be kept longer.
- Server logs: per Vercel's standard retention.
- Your cookie choice: in your browser until you clear site data or change it.
You can ask for access to or deletion of data about you, object to processing, or complain to your local data protection authority. Email us at the address below.
Children's privacy
The App collects no personal information from any user regardless of age, per the data practices described above.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and post the revised version at this same URL.
